Version History
Changes in 1.8.6
- Fixed sound effects. I broke the loading in 1.8.4. Ooops.
- Somewhat better performance on the A300.
- Game should now not leave behind icons in the taskbar when running
under OPIE.
Changes in 1.8.5
- Fixed bug that prevented the keyboard from being ungrabbed correctly.
If it still doesn't work for you, please report.
- Changed keyboard grabbing to occur per default.
- Verified functionality on A300.
Changes in 1.8.4
- Removed use of gzipped binary.
- Support for the EonConfig game configuration tool (installed
automatically). This allows changing of Eon Games specific settings
for our games.
- SDL and SDL_mixer libraries are dynamically linked and installed
automatically as a separate package when Strategic Assault is
installed (eon-libsdl). This resolves the issue with static linking
and LGPL libraries and also shares these libraries between all our
games using these libraries.
- Moved data directory to $QPEDIR/lib/strategic_assault/. Due to
this change, owners of Forest Fire need to upgrade it to version 1.0.4
when upgrading their Strategic Assault installation to 1.8.4.
Changes in 1.8.3
- Fixed blitting of the display on devices that use 90 degree
rotation, most notable the iPAQ 38xx series. Users of those should
note an amazing increase in speed.
- Changed the way files are decompressed on load to work around
busybox gzip bug (-c flag removes source files).
- Use /bin/sh in start script.
Changes in 1.8.2
- Fixed a forgotten reset of the speed between missions.
- Updated graphics rendering to run at a fixed number of frames per
second. This resolves the previous problem where the game and the
interface depended on the speed the game was running at.
- Addd a progress bar to the loading screen.
- Fixed the flickering "new speed" display. It now uses the normal
text display routine in the game.
- Added keypad navigation of menus. Ok/Cancel use somewhat more
logical in the sub-menus.
- Registration code can now be entered with the builtin
keyboard. Numlock / Fn + digit is not required since the Q-P keycodes
automatically are translated to the correct digits.
- Datafiles are now compressed, resulting is significantly smaller
install size.
Changes in 1.8.1
- Screen update code further optimized. The game now uses about
15-20% CPU during normal game play.
- Added a first run welcome message, pointing out the existence of
the manual.
- Split the manual into several pages.
- Pressing the [Cancel] button now quits the game or returns
you to the previous screen. If a game is in progress, it will ask you
if you want to quit - pressing [OK] will confirm while pressing
[Cancel] again will abort.
- Changed colors of friendly, enemy and resource buildings on the
mission briefing screen. They are now easy to distinguish even for
color blind people.
- Game no longer quits when you press the (X) button when
closing the manual dialog.
- Speed control - press (Menu) to slow down, and keypad center
button + (Menu) to speed up. Note that the speed indicator currently
does flicker.
Changes in 1.8.0
- Greatly improved drawing speed. The game now runs much smoother.
- Increased audio buffer for better sound quality.
- New feature: When clicking on the main display while pressing the
Sharp Zaurus d-pad button (i.e button in the middle of the "arrow
keys"), the clicked location will become the new center.
- Made graphics brighter to compensate for the somewhat dark screen
on the Zaurus.
- Updates to the manual.
- Greatly improved initial loading time, plus added a "loading" screen.
- Various sound initialization fixes.
- The help display is shown a lot faster.
Changes in Beta 5:
- Better sound mixing, due to use of SDL and SDL_mixer.
- Music support finished.
- Correctly detects installed Forest Fire mission pack.
